We are often lulled into a sense of security about our abilities as a team when we train in the same locations, with the same people, and with the same materials.
Humans set things in patterns, whether we mean too or not. You can tell where you hide things based on where your dog searches first.
A detection team that will work no matter the environment is also fluency. Not only will the dog work in new environments but the handler has the skill to track areas searched and understand how odor/scent moves to put their partner in the best location.
