Set on 520 acres in Iowa, The K9Sensus Education and Research Complex (ERC) provides extensive opportunities for training. Whether it be night operations or trainer interaction with a variety of animal species, the site will expand trainers’ understanding of learning processes and behavior.

About the event
Do you want to be a K9 handler or are young in your K9 handler/trainer career and want to expand your knowledge and understanding exponetially? This 1-week class (40 hours) will give you the fundamentals you need to be able to more effectilvey and efficiently become an asset for your community. The class will cover the following:
- How odor works (scent theory)
- Fundmentals of K9 learning theory, operant conditioning and learning processes
- Building the detection dog from beginning to certification
- How to write training logs and search reports
- Developing training plans
- Basics of line handling
- Proper care /placement/ storage of scent training odors
- Types of certifications
- The difference between certified and operational
- Ethics
This course can be taken with or without a K9. Some hands on training will be completed with your K9 partner if you bring one. The focus is giving you the information and tools you need to continue to expand your skills when you leave.
For SAR K9 Hanlders: Upon completion, you will have completed your Alliance for Emergency Management Instructors and Examimers Canine Search Specialist Ground Search Specialist field training requirements. This course will also prepare you to complete the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR) Canine Search Technician written exam.
Registration is limited to 6 attendees.

Cost: $600 includes tuition, room, lunches and three group dinners (we will grill!) Your accomodations will be a fully furnished house on the property. You may be sharing a room with another attendee.
Prereqs:
If bringing a dog, they must have current core shot records in line with AHAA
A followup email will include:
1) Specifics about logistics (airport, hotels, camping) if you don't want to stay on site.
2) Required waivers and attendee policies. This must be completed prior to your particpation in the training.
